Facial Contouring: Perlane
Are you concerned that your face could use some contouring or filling? There are plenty of options for facial contouring, and Perlane is just such a possibility. Perlane can help with the cheeks and other parts of the face. And, as strange as it may seem, this treatment is created from a form of Streptococcus.
Perlane is a dermal filler. It is applied to various parts of the face to aid in the improvement of wrinkles and folds. It is administered by injection with a fine needle. Simply put, it plumps the skin in order to smooth it. As opposed to some other treatment, Perlane is used to address deeper folds. It is made of hyaluronic acid gel particles—a natural particle substance that volumizes from beneath the skin. The treatments generally last six months or so. The particles in Perlane attach to water molecules to help maintain the volume.
Potential side effects are generally mild. The injection causes little to no pain, no more than a normal needle injection. They may include some redness and swelling, bruising, soreness, and a few others. Over time, the solution breaks down naturally within the body. So, if the volumizing effects are still needed at that time, a new injection will be necessary. The physician can aid with preventing and treating any pain or side effects.
Perlane is not for everyone. A physician can decide who qualifies, but some people are at risk of complications, such as those with severe allergies or bleeding problems. It is important to discuss with a doctor whether Perlane is the right procedure.
