Laser Tattoo Removal
Plenty of people love tattoos. They are now more socially acceptable than ever and you can even find employment opportunities with companies that no longer care whether the ink on your arms is showing. Despite this, there are also plenty of people who want their tattoos removed. The reasons may vary; they may have aged and no longer like the way it looks, or regret the decision, or the tattoo may have turned out badly.
Fortunately, there is such a thing as tattoo removal. Laser tattoo removal is considered by most physicians to be the best method for this procedure.
Laser tattoo removal effectively uses pulses of light from the laser—there are many types, but at Medical Group Robinson we use the Q-switched Nd:YAG—to dismantle the ink pigments in the skin. This treatment does not generally take very long, but the full effect may take some time afterward. A few treatments may be needed for there to be clean results. No two patients and their tattoos are alike, so the number of treatments needed is never certain. After a few weeks, the skin heals and, as a result of the healing process, the pigments are removed naturally. Even dark, newer tattoos are no match for the laser.
There may be a little discomfort, but the expert performing the procedure will take precautions to minimalize that, including cooling and numbing agents, and topical cream. Many patients say that having the tattoo removal is far less painful than getting the ink done. Overall, the risk of side effects is low and the results—if the patient is committed to the treatments—are significant.
