Chemical Peel Frequently Asked Questions

How do chemical peels work?

Think of a chemical peel as intensive exfoliation, ridding your face of dry, damaged surface cells to reveal a youthful and more radiant complexion. The process stimulates cell renewal, collagen synthesis and improves elasticity. It’s safe, non-invasive and requires little to no downtime.

Will my results be visible from a chemical peel?

Like any other procedure, results vary from person to person. Our chemical peels are designed for light surface penetration, and can help visibly soften fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin tone and texture, reduce symptoms of oiliness and diminish the appearance of blemishes.

What if I want to see a bigger difference from a chemical peel?

A light chemical peel is safe enough to combine with other procedures, such as microdermabrasion and laser phototherapy, to enhance your results even more!

Will a chemical peel hurt?

You may feel a slight stinging or burning sensation during the first three to five minutes of the 30 minute session, otherwise, the procedure is fairly comfortable. You simply relax with the peel on your face, and after the treatment, you can return to regular activities.

Will my skin be sensitive after a chemical peel?

You’ll want to avoid excessive heat and sun exposure for two days following the procedure -we recommend sun block with transparent zinc oxide. Your skin may be sensitive, slightly red and perhaps even flaky for up to five days as your old skin continues to slough away and new skin emerges. However the good news is, your skin will likely feel tighter, smoother and softer than usual.

What about side effects from chemical peels?

Side effects are extremely rare but do include burning, headaches, nausea, dizziness, scarring and infection. Less severe side effects may include temporary “hot spots” or crusting.

What is a light chemical peel?

When should I avoid a chemical peel?
You should not have a chemical peel if you have used Accutane within the last 3 months or used any retinoic products within the last week, if you are pregnant or lactating, or if you have any open wounds, cuts abrasions, or Herpes outbreak. Also not if you have had plastic surgery within the last 3-6 months or if you have an allergy to aspirin. Testing for allergies if recommended prior to the facial peel.

How does Microdermabrasion work?
Microdermabrasion uses ultra-fine crystals to remove the old, dry skin in your upper layer, revealing new skin below your epidermis. It’s a safe and natural way to exfoliate and rejuvenate your face while reducing the appearance of fine lines, scars, age spots and sun damage. It is the most natural way to evenly and safely exfoliate the skin without chemicals or a laser.
When will I see results from Microdermabrasion?
You will see results after the first treatment; however the most dramatic results will be seen between 3-6 treatments.
How often will I need Microdermabrasion treatment?
Once every 7-10 days for the first 4-5 treatments. From there we usually recommend a maintenance schedule (one treatment every 4-6 weeks).
Can Microdermabrasion harm my skin?
Microdermabrasion is very safe, and can be performed on any part of the body, for any person desiring an improved appearance of the skin.
Can I do Microdermabrasion over my lunch hour?
Yes. The procedure itself takes just 8-10 minutes, however pre and post treatment protocols taking 30-40 minutes. Your skin will probably be red for a few hours up to a full day, but after re-applying make-up, you can return to your usual activities.
What is Microdermabrasion?
It is the most natural way to evenly and safely exfoliate the skin without chemicals or a laser. The exfoliation process rejuvenates the skin by utilizing ultra-fine crystals to remove the upper layer of the epidermis. Studies have shown that microdermabrasion increases the production of collagen and elastin. The final result is firmer, more youthful looking skin over time.
How long has Microdermabrasion been around?
It has been performed in the United States since around 1993.
What results can be expected from Microdermabrasion?
In addition to surface exfoliation, microdermabrasion promotes the production of new cells in the basal (deepest) layer of the dermis. Microdermabrasion will minimize fine lines and wrinkles, acne and scarring, dull or congested skin, enlarged pores and blemishes, chickenpox scars and scratch marks, and will lighten age or sun spots.
Is Microdermabrasion only for the face?
No, it can be performed on any part of the body.
Who should get Microdermabrasion?

What does a Microdermabrasion treatment feel like?
Responses vary from person to person, but in average it is more tolerable then waxing.
What will the skin look like after a Microdermabrasion treatment?
Most microdermabrasion systems will leave the patient red and irritated for a period of 2-24 hours. This is typically a result of exposure to aluminum oxide. However, combined with baking soda solution, you can get a treatment during lunchtime and go back to your usual activities looking and feeling refreshed. Your skin will have a vibrant healthy appearance and incredibly smooth texture.

Latisse® Frequently Asked Questions

How was LATISSE® discovered?
LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% was actually discovered as a beneficial side effect of LUMIGAN®, a drug created by Allergan and used to treat glaucoma. During the treatment, patients noticed significant eyelash growth. Allergan then ran studies on the safety and efficacy of LATISSE® for eyelash growth and created a delivery device for correct application. The results were excellent and today LATISSE® is the only FDA approved product for eyelash growth.
What does LATISSE® do?
Basically, it grows and enhances your own natural eyelashes. Most patients see their eyelashes get longer, thicker, and sometimes darker. LATISSE® users may start to see some results at 8 weeks and full results can usually be seen at 12 to 16 weeks. After four months of treatment, most patients then will go into “maintenance dosage” and use LATISSE® two or three times a week.
How does LATISSE® make eyelashes grow?
LATISSE® is believed to affect the growth phase of eyelash hair cycle in two ways: first, it increases the length of the growth phase; second, it increases the total number of hairs during the growth phase.
What about other eyelash products and treatments?
LATISSE® solution is the first and only prescription treatment approved by the FDA for inadequate or minimal eyelashes. It is proven to grow eyelashes longer, fuller and darker. In addition most of the other eyelash products on the consumer market today are conditioners, similar to hair conditioners, and they do not grow or enhance lashes.
What are the possible LATISSE® side effects and complications of using it?
The most common side effects after using LATISSE® solution are an itching sensation in the eyes and/or eye redness. This was reported in approximately 4% of patients.
Are there any special warnings for LATISSE® use?
LATISSE® solution is intended for use on the skin of the upper eyelid margins at the base of the eyelashes. You should only use LATISSE® after the consultation with your physician.

It is possible for hair growth to occur in other areas of your skin that LATISSE® frequently touches. Any excess solution outside the upper eyelid margin should be blotted with a tissue or other absorbent material to reduce the chance of this from happening.
Where do you get LATISSE®? Do you really need a prescription?
The FDA has approved LATISSE® treatment, and they determined that it should be available only by prescription from a physician. When making an appointment, be sure to tell us that you want to find out more about LATISSE®. Then you can ask your doctor if LATISSE® is right for you.
Can I use LATISSE® if I wear contact lenses?
It’s not a problem; contact lenses need to be removed prior to application of LATISSE® and may be reinserted 15 minutes after its administration.
How do I use LATISSE®?
Apply one drop on a brush included with the prescription. Brush the medicine on the upper eyelid, and throw the brush away. Then place another drop on another brush. Brush the medicine on the other eyelid, and throw the brush away. Each prescription of LATISSE® has a thirty day supply. LATISSE® has a helpful video for applying the treatment on its website.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss one application or can’t apply the treatment for a few days, don’t try to catch up by “doubling up” on the dosage. Just apply the LATISSE® treatment the next evening and stay on schedule.
What if I get some in my eye?
LATISSE® solution is an ophthalmic drug product. Any direct contact with the eye warrants no alarm. The eye needs no rinsing or cleansing.
If I stop using LATISSE®, what happens?
If you stop using LATISSE®, your eyelashes are expected to return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months.
